I use the Female Runner and MyFORM® tests to track hormone fluctuations and all my key biomarkers. The Edge tests together with the amazing team have been a game changer in getting to the bottom of hormone imbalances I was having due to being in an energy deficit. Luckily we got to the bottom of the problem quickly which helped avoid me getting RED-S and I now do regular testing to make sure I am keeping on top of everything as I want to get the best out of myself.
Carla is a record breaking ultra runner, adventurer and running coach who seeks out events that are slightly harder than the average. She loves to push her body to the limits by running a long way, up mountains and around islands. Recently running the length of Great Britain from Land’s End to John O’Groats and setting a new ladies World Record along the way. Carla has represented Great Britain at the 100km World Championships and is a Hoka Athlete.
Carla started running at school when she was 15 by running around in circles and through muddy fields. From school she went to university in Cardiff where she studied Sports Science and took up triathlon. Carla went on to win her Age Group at the European Duathlon Championships and competed at three World Championships. In 2013 she entered the Glasgow Half Marathon and loved the simplicity of running so she hung up her wetsuit, put her bike away and just started to run!
Since then Carla has gone on to get a Gold Medal at Comrades (the oldest and largest ultra marathon in the world), represented Great Britain at the 100km World Championships and get a World Record for running the length of Great Britain, where she ran 1,327km in 12 days, 30 minutes and 14 seconds!
Carla has also set up her very own training platform SCY for Runners. She saw a gap in training for all runners and so created Strength Conditioning & Yoga for Runners. An online platform that provides on demand S&C and Yoga videos as well a unique community to share knowledge.

3rd at 2019 Great North Run
As an endurance athlete I know how easy it is to tip the balance from training and pushing your limits by ‘over-reaching’, to over training and having the potential to be injured. Tracking my hormones over my entire menstrual cycle has enabled me see the impact my training is having and avoid putting stress on my body resulting in a loss of periods.
Cycling National Hill Climb National Championships
We started exploring Edge when I (Lily) was struggling to recover after the Olympic Marathon Trials. Through Edge analysis it was discovered that my cortisol and testosterone levels had crashed. This signalled to me that I had gone over the edge and needed rest. I tested again 4 months later after a much-needed break and my levels had returned to a healthy level. Ben also had testing done post Olympics as he was struggling to return and knew something wasn’t right. It was good to get clarity and to understand our physical health in finer detail.
Team GB Marathon
I was advised by a Sport and Exercise Doctor to use the Edge products and upon his advice started using the female runner test. This allows us to monitor my biomarkers to see how they change across the season. I can easily compare how my levels change across different periods of training and ensure that any issues are highlighted so that I can train and race to the best standard.
