I lost my period as a consequence of RED-S and so I started using Edge to track my hormone levels and help me recover from RED-S as well as improving my performance in triathlon. My first test has already given me an insight into some areas I can work on to improve my performance and I am excited to see the effect that improving my biomarkers can have on my performance.
Mia Hawkins competes in Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons, she’s also studying for a Masters in Osteopathy.
A gymnast through childhood she looked for a new challenge when starting at University of Bath. She joined the triathlon club and quickly caught the bug for the sport, racing all around the world. In Mia’s first year of racing she qualified for the Age Group World Championships and finished 8th in Lausanne at the AG World Championships.
Mia is now racing in the British Elite Super Series and French D2 triathlon series. Her best result so far is Top 10 Senior Women in 2021 at Mallory Park and overall top 20 in the series in 2021.
Mia started to suffer from RED-S, she uses Edge to monitor and track her hormones as part of her recovery. Mia says, ‘Edge has allowed me to adapt my training to ensure my hormones are optimised. I have also been using Edge to monitor other biomarkers and ensure to optimise my nutrition and performance. My first test with Edge highlighted some of my hormones where low which was negatively effecting my performance. I have since been able to adapt my training and nutrition to improve these levels. My goals for this year is to get back to racing after my injury. I am now training more consistently with more energy for my sessions.’
Mia is using our Female Triathlon test to learn more about her hormones, key biomarkers and how this can help monitor her health and training load.

I have a very keen interest in human physiology and with my background in Physiotherapy and sport science, I am keen to invest in the technical side of adaptation to ensure my training is maximised. Edge is a key component of my training plan as the tests provided will enable me to see the tangible improvements from this one aspect of my heavy endurance training programme.

The female triathlete test allows me to regularly (every 4 months) ensure all the key biomarkers and hormones that reflect my state of health are where they should be. I have always found it hard to know when to push through on those tough, tired days and when to take a step back and allow myself some extra recovery time. Edge removes the guess work and gives me a significant advantage because I can optimise my training and minimise my risk of injuries and illnesses.

I started using Edge because of recurrent injuries as well as balancing training alongside a busy job I wanted the reassurance I was getting the training balance right. In addition to this I have Coeliac Disease and so I want to be sure my iron and vitamin D levels especially are ok. To date my blood results have all been very good which gives me the reassurance I am at least getting my fuelling and training balance right.

Edge has helped me take out the guesswork on how my body is responding to both training and daily stresses. This objective scientific measure means I know longer worry about how I feel or whether I should or shouldn't do something, as I have the answer from my results.
