The reason I was interested in testing with Edge is that at the moment, freediving is a very un-tested sport with very little scientific data to support our training. For me as an athlete and coach, any additional information about how our bodies react to freedive training is going to be extremely useful in improving training protocols.

Nathan is the brains behind the Train Freediving method and training systems. He is a world-class athlete and innovator of freedive education committed to upholding the safe practice of the sport. Through sports performance analysis and programming, Nathan coaches freedivers worldwide to take their freediving to the next level with pleasure and ease.

Nathan was just 15 years old when he recognised an interest in what would later become his whole life, ‘freediving’. At the time he was just a young teen, exploring the skill that led him to be able to hold his breath underwater for long periods of time, tried and tested in his aunt’s garden pool. Following a little research Nathan found out this was a sport; one he could partake in at a club so that’s exactly what he did. Upon joining, he quickly advanced from trainer to assistant trainer at the age of just 20. It’s here his addiction to Apnea training really took hold.

When Nathan turned 21, he packed up and left for Egypt to settle in Dahab and train as an instructor full-time. He built up a wealth of personal and professional knowledge in the sport, and participated in several freediving competitions worldwide, hitting the peak of his career when he represented Canada in the AIDA Freediving World Championships in 2019.

It wasn’t long before Nathan became renowned worldwide as an expert coach, setting up his business, ‘Train Freediving’ to deliver training and coaching backed by sports science. He wanted to inspire young freedivers to overcome the obstacles they faced in the professional sporting world and help support them in making their dreams a reality.

Nathan is using our Crossfit Test. This test is in place to support functional athletes, helping them gain greater insight into their hormones and key biomarkers to better understand how to manage and monitor their health and training load.

“The reason I was interested in testing with Edge is that at the moment, freediving is a very un-tested sport with very little scientific data to support our training. For me as an athlete and coach, any additional information about how our bodies react to freedive training is going to be extremely useful in improving training protocols. For now, I’m using the basic Cross-fit test which should give a general broad overview of my biomarkers. Thanks to the flexibility with Edge, I’ve been able to add a few things specifically to do with O2 carrying capacity that was missing, like B12 and ferritin.”
